Eligibility: Conducted by Society for Science & the Public and sponsored by the Intel Corporation and Foundation, the Intel Science Talent Search (STS) is an annual competition for students in their last year of secondary school. Students must submit a written report on an independent research project that demonstrates competence in planning and completing a project in science, mathematics or engineering.
Award: More than 1,800 high school seniors compete each year with 300 semifinalists and their schools receiving $1,000 each. Forty finalists are invited to Washington, D.C., to participate in final judging, display their work to the public, meet with notable scientists and government leaders, and receive awards from $7,500 to $100,000.
