Deadline: Application must be requested by email by January 1, 2017, and submitted by January 31, 2017.
Eligibility: Scholarships are awarded annually from a trust fund in the memory of William H. Heald, former U.S. Representative from Delaware (1909-1913). Applicant must be a resident of New Castle County, Del., and a male student entering the University of Delaware as a freshman. The committee considers such factors as willingness of the applicant to live on campus and participate in all aspects of college life; recommendations of people who know the applicant well; secondary school academic record; extracurricular activities; and the financial need of the applicant.
Award: Determination of recipients and amount of each award is made at the sole discretion of the scholarship committee. In the past few years, the number of scholarships has ranged from three to five each year and the amount has varied, between $2,500 to $3,500 per recipient. Renewable if recipient maintains academic standing and exhibits good citizenship at the university, acceptable to the committee at its sole discretion.
