Eligibility: Annual audio essay contest designed to foster patriotism by giving students in grades nine through 12 the opportunity to voice their opinion in a three- to five-minute original essay on the 2016-17 theme “My Responsibility to America.” Students should record their reading of the draft to an audio CD or flash drive. Audio essays are judged on originality, content, and delivery. Complete competition rules available at:
Award: Prizes and scholarships are awarded at the local, district, state, and National level. State winners receive an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C., to tour the city, be honored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars and its Ladies Auxiliary, and receive their portion of $152,000 in national awards. The top scholarship is $30,000.
